I am the director of University Christian Ministries and I oversee a wonderful group of fellow campus missionaries working at Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College, and Skagit Valley College. My ministry is focused on biblical teaching, training future campus pastors through our post undergraduate internship program, helping to establish new campus ministries, and student leadership development in local, national, and international settings.
Who is your favorite character in the Bible?
Isaiah: He is responsive to the voice of the Lord, bold to the point of being a bit peculiar, has a wondrous command of language and imagery and carries out his mission even though it is full of difficulty.
What makes you cry?
Words of great beauty and power; teaching the Scripture; sentimental or heroic movies; the suffering of children and the heartbreak of the betrayed or bereaved are some of the things that make me cry.
How many kids do you have?
Shirley and I have four children - Stefany and Stacy are both married (Dan & Mark) and have blessed us with eight grandchildren; our eldest son Micah works in Bellingham and Seth is a senior at Sehome High School.
What was your favorite class in school?
Favorite and most influential would be my senior high English course at Blaine High with Warren Aller. My high school English course taught by Warren Aller set my mind and imagination on fire as I was exposed to great literature (particularly Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment) - it was this class and W.A. that inspired me to become a teacher.
If you had to boil it down to one favorite thing about your spouse what would that be?
Shirley loves the Lord in a daily and unpretentious way - out of that love she lives a life of openhearted hospitality, generosity, and faithful friendship.
